One Week in LA – How to Spend 7 Days in Los Angeles

Spend a week in sunny Los Angeles by immersing yourself in the city’s vibrant culture, entertainment, and outdoor adventures with the help of our 7-day itinerary.

Day 1: Start in Downtown Los Angeles

Begin your Los Angeles adventure with a visit to the historic Union Station, a stunning example of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture and important landmark. Afterwards, head to the Grand Central Market, a bustling food hall offering a variety of international cuisines and local specialities to sample mouthwatering dishes. Once the food has settled, visit the Walt Disney Concert Hall and take a guided tour to admire its unique architecture and learn about its history.

Roam around the area and discover the vibrant street art scene in the Arts District, home to colourful murals, galleries, and trendy boutiques. If you’re looking for affordable items, head to the Fashion District, where local stores sell everything from jewellery to clothes to shoes. End your day with dinner at one of the acclaimed restaurants in Little Tokyo, where you can enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine.

Day 2: Hollywood and Beverly Hills

Visiting Los Angeles, especially as a first-time visitor, you’ll probably be eager to visit Hollywood and its surrounding areas. Begin your day with a visit to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where nearly 3000 stars are dotted on the ground, to honour celebrities that have contributed to the entertainment industry. When you’re done snapping away, take a guided tour of TCL Chinese Theatre and learn about its storied history and Hollywood premieres. 

If you’re a big entertainment fan, the Hollywood Museum should be on your list of places to visit. Located a stone’s throw away from Hollywood Boulevard, you can explore exhibits showcasing the world’s largest memorabilia from classic films and TV shows.

For postcard shots of the City of Angel, drive or hike up to the Hollywood Sign, where panoramic views await. If high-end shopping is on the list of things to do, spend the afternoon on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, known for its luxury boutiques and designer stores. End your day with dinner at one of the upscale restaurants on Sunset Boulevard, such as Polo Lounge and Chateau Marmont, where you may spot celebrities dining.

Day 3: Coastal Los Angeles

Start your day at Santa Monica Pier, where you can ride the famous amusement park rides, entertain yourself at arcade games or watch enthusiastic street performers. Later, take a leisurely stroll along Santa Monica Beach and soak up the sun on the sandy shores or enjoy a stroll on the boardwalk to Venice Beach, known for its vigorous atmosphere, street art and independent shops.

If you’d rather remain in the area, head to the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium to learn about the region’s marine life and conservation efforts. You can’t visit Los Angeles and not drive along the scenic Pacific Coast Highway. Let the breeze whisk you away as you drive towards Malibu Pier for lunch overlooking the ocean. Whilst there, explore the beautiful beaches and hiking trails at Malibu Creek State Park or Point Dume State Beach. End your day by catching the sunset at El Matador State Beach, known for its dramatic sea caves and rock formations.

Day 4: Arts and Culture

In the morning, visit the Getty Center, which features European paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts, to admire world-class art collections. Continue your art spotting at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) to see its extensive collection of art spanning thousands of years and cultures.

Afterwards, discover the trendy Melrose Avenue, known for its eclectic mix of boutiques, vintage shops, and street art. If you’re visiting on a Sunday, stop by Melrose Trading Post, a favoured market offering a curated selection of handcrafted items.

End your day with a live performance or concert at the legendary Hollywood Bowl, an outdoor amphitheatre nestled in the Hollywood Hills. Opened over 100 years, it’s become the prime entertainment venue in Southern California.

Day 5: Theme Parks and Entertainment

Spend the day at Universal Studios Hollywood to experience thrilling rides, shows, and attractions based on your favourite movies and TV shows. Marvel at the sets and backlot tour to see how some of your favourite movies are made and get behind-the-scenes insights into Hollywood filmmaking. After, visit the nearby Universal CityWalk for shopping, dining, and entertainment options, including restaurants, cinemas, and live music venues.

If you still have energy after a fun-filled day, catch a live comedy show in the evening at the world-famous Laugh Factory or The Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip.

Day 6: Outdoor Adventure

Break a sweat by hiking to the iconic Hollywood Sign, taking one of the scenic trails that offer stunning views of Los Angeles. Uncover the picturesque tracks and natural beauty of Griffith Park, home to the historic Griffith Observatory and miles of hiking and biking paths. Alternatively, take a scenic drive to Runyon Canyon Park and hike to the summit for Instagram-worthy flicks of the city skyline. If animal spotting is high on the list, visit the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens to witness a diverse collection of animals from around the world.

Day 7: Day Trip to Disneyland

Take a day trip to Disneyland Resort in Anaheim to experience the magic of Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park. Let your inner child come out and play at the themed lands, rides, and attractions inspired by Disney movies and characters. Whilst there, enjoy live entertainment, parades, and fireworks shows throughout the day.
